Disaster Services Courses

Red Cross disaster relief focuses on meeting people's immediate emergency disaster-caused needs. When a disaster threatens or strikes, the Red Cross provides shelter, food, and health and mental health services to address basic human needs.

Introduction to Disaster Services

This video-driven course provides fundamental information about disasters, the community response, and the role of the Red Cross Disaster Services. This class is required for all new disaster volunteers.

Fee: No charge

* Introduction to Disaster can also be completed as a self-study course on-line.

Disaster Action Team (DAT) Workshop

This workshop is for volunteers interested in being a disaster action team member for the Mid-Fairfield County Chapter. DAT members respond to the scene of a disaster, are trained in their primary function and agree to be on call for a month. This workshop is required for all Mid-Fairfield County Chapter DAT volunteers.

Fee: No charge, pre-registration is required.
Prerequisites: Introduction to Disaster, training in at least one function.

Preparing for the Unexpected

The purpose of this course is to provide basic information about the issues and safety concerns in performing our work in an environment involving a Weapons of Mass Destruction and/or Terrorism (WMD/T) incident. Participants will learn about the skills, abilities, and knowledge needed by disaster workers performing duties in this environment.
